Shodō — the Japanese art of calligraphy — is not merely writing. It is a practice of presence. Each stroke carries the weight of intention, the rhythm of breath, and centuries of quiet refinement. At Te-Gami, every piece begins here: a brush, ink, and a moment of stillness.
Every character tells a story. We choose symbols that speak to the human experience — love, perseverance, harmony, courage. Worn close to the body, they become a quiet declaration of what matters to you.
Te-Gami was born from a simple desire: to carry Japanese aesthetics into everyday South African life. Founded by artists who found a home between two cultures, we make things by hand because we believe the maker's touch changes everything.
Founded in Somerset West, South Africa

Each design begins as calligraphy — brush on paper, character by character, until the composition breathes.
The artwork is carefully transferred to a hand-prepared silk screen, each one made for a single design.
Ink is drawn across the screen by hand onto fabric, one careful pull at a time. No two prints are identical.
Earrings are hand-folded using traditional origami and mizuhiki techniques, then checked by hand.
An invitation to carry something meaningful. Each piece holds a story — of the brush that made it, the hands that shaped it.
